Homemade Hair Masks

Hot oil treatments are one of the simplest and most effective remedies for dry hair. The best part about a homemade hot oil treatment is that you can make custom blends to suit your hair type.

You Will Need

* 2 tbsp Almond Oil
* 2 tbsp Olive Oil
* 2 tbsp Jojoba Oil
* 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

* Mix all the oils in a medium-sized pot and warm it. (You can personalize this mix by adding or substituting oils.)
* Don’t overheat as it will end up damaging your scalp. Make sure it’s lukewarm, not hot.
* Massage hair with this oil mixture and wrap it up in a towel.
* Unwrap after 30 minutes and wash with a mild shampoo.

2) Egg Yolk And Water Mix

Egg yolk is another wonderful dry hair remedy. It conditions your hair shafts and keeps them moisturized.

You Will Need
* 2 egg yolks


* Take two eggs and separate the yolk from the whites.
* Add three tablespoons of water and beat until the mixture is slightly fluffy.
* Apply all over your hair and wait for 30 minutes before washing.
* Use cool water to wash your hair. This keeps the egg from “cooking” and controls the smell.

3. Egg, Honey, And Yogurt Hair Mask

Egg yolk is rich in fats and proteins and is also naturally moisturizing while the white contains the bacteria-eating enzymes that remove unwanted oils. It moisturizes dry and brittle hair. The protein content of yogurt will strengthen your hair strands from the roots and add extra shine, without removing its natural moisture.

* 2 Eggs
* 1 tbsp Honey
* 2 tbsp Yogurt

* Beat two raw eggs in a medium-sized bowl.
* Add one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of yogurt. Mix until you get a smooth, creamy paste.
* Apply this mixture to your hair and leave it on for at least 20 minutes.
* Wash with cool water.

This hair mask will leave your hair feeling conditioned without making it sticky. This is the perfect treatment for combination hair (oily at the roots, dry at the tips.)

4. Honey And Vegetable Oil Hair Mask

This pack nourishes your hair while conditioning it.

* 2 tbsp Honey
* 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil

* Mix two tablespoons honey with two tablespoons vegetable oil to make a sticky paste.
* Apply the mixture to your hair as you would a mask and wrap it with a plastic shower cap.
* After 15 minutes, remove the cap and shampoo.

The moisturizing property of honey will give you soft and super smooth tresses.

5. Rice Milk And Honey Hair Wash

If your hair is dull and dry, this mask will restore shine and nourish your hair. Honey is an amazing natural emollient that seals moisture in you hair shafts.

* 1 cup Rice Milk
* 2 tsp Honey

* Take a cup of rice milk and add two teaspoons of honey.
* In a bowl, mix the ingredients until it is consistent.
* Spread the mixture over your hair and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes.
* Rinse off.

This is an excellent way to get lustrous hair in minutes. You will also love the smell of your hair once it’s dry.

6. Avocado And Banana Hair Mask

When it comes to sealing moisture in your hair, the efficiency of avocado can never be ignored. Bananas can increase the elasticity of your hair shafts and make them stronger and softer.

* 1 ripe Banana
* 1 ripe Avocado

* Mash the banana and avocado together until the mixture is free of lumps.
* Apply the mixture to your hair and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
* Wash off with cool/lukewarm water.

Both these ingredients contain natural oils that condition your hair while nourishing your scalp and hair.

8. Beer Spray

Beer is known for its conditioning properties. It adds a healthy sheen to dry and dull hair and also provides volume. The vitamin B content in beer makes your hair lustrous and soft.

You Will Need

* 1/2 cup Flat Beer
* 2 cups Water

* Mix the beer with two cups of water and set it aside in a jug.
* Shampoo and condition your hair.
* Use the diluted beer as a final rinse to pour through your hair.
* Do not wash again and allow your hair to dry naturally.
* Using this beer rinse once a week will keep your hair conditioned and shiny.

10. Honey Hair Mask

Honey is a humectant, which means that it binds moisture to your hair shaft, keeping it conditioned.

You Will Need

* 1 tbsp Honey
* 2 tbsp Carrier Oil (Coconut, olive, jojoba, etc…)

* In a bowl, combine the ingredients to get a consistent mixture.
* Apply this to your hair, starting from the roots and working your way down to the tips. Concentrate on the tips of your hair as they are the driest parts.
* Leave it in for 20 minutes and then rinse it out with shampoo.
* Alternatively, you can dilute a teaspoon of honey with two cups of water and use it as a hair rinse.

11. Aloe Vera Mask

Aloe vera is one of the best ingredients you could use for repairing damage and dryness. It also boosts scalp health and encourages healthy hair growth.

* 3 tbsp Yogurt
* 4 tbsp Aloe Vera
* 2 tbsp Carrier Oil

* In a bowl, combine all the ingredients until you get a consistent mixture.
* Section your hair and start applying the hair pack from the roots of your hair to the tips.
* Leave the pack in for half an hour and then rinse it out with lukewarm water and shampoo.
* This pack works well for dry as well as combination hair types. It leaves your hair feeling soft, luscious, and healthy.

15. Essential Oils

Adding essential oils to your hair care regime can be extremely therapeutic. Essential oils such as lavender or rosemary carry various beneficial properties that help condition your hair while maintaining scalp health.

You Will Need

* 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
* 2 tbsp Almond Oil
* 1 tsp Castor Oil
* 4-5 drops Lavender/Rosemary Essential Oil

* Combine all the oils in a bowl and heat for a few seconds until the blend is slightly warm.
* Massage the oil blend into your scalp and work it through your hair.
* Focus on the tips of your hair as these are the most damaged parts.
* Leave the oil in for at least 30 minutes. You can also leave it in overnight.
* Wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

* 1 Ripe Banana

* Mash a ripe banana until it is completely free of lumps.

* 3 Egg Yolks

* A handful of tulsi leaves (basil)
* 1 tablespoon raw milk

Grind the tulsi leaves to make a paste.
Mix it well with raw milk to give it a paste-like consistency.

Some important points for any face pack application

* Ensure your face is washed and clean of any dirt
* Wear old clothes as some might slight off your face
* Ensure all the word is done and you can relax during the drying of the pack
* To add volume to some fruits, you can add oats to the fruit pulp. It will help the pack stay on your face
* You can apply to both face and the neck.
* Adding the following ingredients will amplify the benefits

1) Honey - Hydrates the skin and improve acne resistance
2) Lemon Juice - Kills bacteria, reduces blemishes, improves complexion, fights acne
3) Yoghurt - Removes excessive oil, protects the skin against harmful rays of the sun, and reduces tanning. Makes skin smooth and soft
4) Milk - It acts as a great cleansing and moisturizing agent. It enhances skin elasticity and and improves the complexion as well
5) Green tea - it helps in rejuvenating the skin

2) Kiwi and Avocado face pack - 1 avocado + 1 kiwi + 1 tsp honey - 30 mins - once a week - all skin types.

3) Banana  and lemon face pack - 1/2 banana + 1/2 tsp honey + 1 tsp lemon - 20 mins - all skin types + oily skin type

4) Tomato face pack - 1 tomato + 1 tbsp oatmeal + 1 tsp yoghurt (or milk and honey) - 10 minutes +   - 10 mins - once a week - oily skin only

5) Orange face pack - 3 oranges (2tsp of dried orange peel powder) + 1 tbsp yoghurt + 1 tsp honey -  - 20 mins

6) Cucumber and Milk face pack - 1/2 cucumber + 1/4 cup milk + 1 tbsp honey + 1 tbsp brown sugar - 20 mins - once or twice a week - all skin types

7) Strawberry and Chocolate face pack - 4 strawberries + 1 tbsp cocoa powder + 1 tsp honey - 15 minutes - all skin types - once a week

8) Grapes and Apple face pack = 1/2 apple + 7 grapes - 30 mins - twice a week - all skin types

9. Hydrating Mangao face pack - 1 ripe mango + 2-3 tsp of fuller's earth - every two weeks - all skin types

Papaya and Multani Mitti for clear skin

Multani Mitti helps cleanses the skin thoroughly.
Removes the excess dirt and sebum from your face.
This makes the skin look brighter

* 3-4 cubes of ripe papaya
* 2 tbsp of multani mitti or Fuller's earth
* Water or rosewater for mixing

* Mash the papaya and mix it with multani mitti
* Add water or rosewater to prepare the paste
* Spread it over your face and let it dry
* Wash it afterward

If you dry skin, use it once a week
If you have oily skin, use it twice a week
